Paul Minett (Trip Convergence Ltd)
"Flexible Car Pooling"
Trip Convergence Ltd is championing a new approach to carpooling. It builds on the concept of casual carpooling from San Francisco which accounts for 3,000 single use three person carpools per day. Flexible carpooling could turn TDM on its head because it works on the assumption that finding a carpooling partner is NOT an ‘information’ problem, but rather an ‘assembly’ problem. This insight, that daily pre-arrangement is not a prerequisite to successful carpooling, could render most internet based ride-matching systems obsolete. What is needed is not a database, but a meeting point. In the presentation Paul Minett, a co-inventor of the system and a co-founder of the company, will share progress on the journey, including the conspiracies that exist to protect the status quo. If you thought innovation was welcome in this industry, Paul is here to tell you that it is pretty hard to find an open door. It is not all negative, however, and Paul will also provide an update on project development in Auckland, Portland OR, and Seattle WA.
