Jacqueline Dawson and Claire Flattery (Rodney District Council)

"TDM in the Rural Environment - Carpooling as a Solution"

Rodney is more rural than urban, and the traditional Workplace Travel Planning tools available from the Auckland Regional Transport Authority need to be adapted and expanded to accommodate these differences in Geography, Demographics and Lifestyles. Rodney has developed a Community based carpooling tool, which is still in its second year of implementation. Jacki and Claire will present an overview of the market research and implementation process of the Rodney District community carpooling scheme. Take A Mate is a web based service which has been developed within the Community Programmes (previously community focused activity) fund allocation.

Everyone agrees that to achieve a sizable reduction in SOV trips, we need to encourage the community to rideshare, use PT, walk or cycle, so we are working on making this tool an option for others to utilize.
