"Compulsory Travel Plans for Public Organisations?"

Auckland City Council is leading a partnership project with Auckland District Health Board and ARTA to develop a travel plan for staff and visitors for both the Auckland City Hospital and Greenlane Clinic Centre sites. The hospitals are located on key arterials for the city and with 8,000 staff and over 500,000 patients a year, which has a significant impact on travel patterns in the city.

This is a voluntary travel plan and illustrates the benefits of working together to achieve an improved travel experience for a wide range of journeys, with additional objectives to enable continued development of the hospital and increased service the community. The presentation will provide an overview of the development of the travel plan but will question whether large scale public organisations should have compulsory travel plans, and how this affects the approach, methodology, funding arrangements and implementation.
