What We Do

School Travel Plan Road Safety Study

Flow was engaged by NZTA to investigate the relationship, if any, between school travel plans and improved safety in the area surrounding schools, in particular for pedestrians and cyclists.  The research considered the hypothesis that school travel plans have a relationship with road safety and that there is an improved level of safety surrounding a school once a travel plan has been implemented.  This was assessed using crash data within a 500 m radius around eleven schools in Auckland City, using data from NZTA’s crash records for a five year period prior to the actions and activities of a school travel plan being implemented, and for the years after actions and activities have commenced.
