Flow undertook an investigation into the provision of cycle routes parallel to the Dominion Road corridor, developing a western route and an eastern route through the network of residential streets to link with the SH20 Cycleway in the south and Ian McKinnon Drive in the north.
The focus of this feasibility study was to provide alternative north-south cycle routes either side of Dominion Road to support cyclists with a range of confidence and skill levels but primarily targeting less confident cyclists. As well as the typical desktop analysis, numerous site cycle-overs were undertaken in order to determine the preferred routes for cyclists.
Innovative solutions were identified to ensure the success of the routes including the branding of the routes, school and community involvement to launch the routes and a proposal for regular road markings to provide a clear and legible route for cyclists to follow.
