Martin Huang has over 13 years in road safety and traffic engineering. Back in 2001, he completed a Bachelor in Civil Engineering in China, before moving to New Zealand. Over the past years in New Zealand he has undertaken further studies to complete a Master in Transportation Engineering to specialise himself in the traffic and transport industry. He has also been involved a wide range of transport and traffic activities. These have included:
- Responsibility as the local representative for the flagship project of Urban KiwiRAP to establish a pioneering road safety system model in the city environment context.
- Responsibility for the transport assessment of various projects in both residential and commercial sections on behalf of either developers or local authorities
- Responsibility for implementation of new infrastructure provisions for all road users including footpath, cycle lane and public transport assets, as well as signalized intersections
- Responsibility for traffic modelling exercisers for Tauranga City Council along with first-hand traffic operations knowledge to find practical solutions to optimize network performance.
Martin has a particular passion and expertise in traffic signal operations. In addition to managing responsible tasks at Flow, he has also seconded to Auckland Transport Operation Centre (ATOC) as a consultant specialist, undertaking various traffic signal works including route optimization, design peer review and customer response management.
Since 2014, Martin has been acting as a IPENZ (now Engineering NZ) Practice Area Assessor to assist in applicants who want to become a Charted Engineer in the transportation spectrum. In his spare time, he is also an active football referee so can be seen running around and blowing whistles over most weekends.
