Michael Jongeneel - Transportation Engineer

Michael Jongeneel joined Flow in July 2010.  Prior to joining the team at Flow, Michael had been a graduate civil engineer at Opus International Consultants in Auckland and holds a Civil Engineering degree from Canterbury University.  At Opus, Michael was predominately involved in the detailed design of a number of high profile projects, including Auckland's Upper Harbour Corridor and the North Shore Busway.  Having travelled extensively in the interim and returning to New Zealand in 2010, Michael chose to return to the engineering profession with us at Flow, joining us part time while he completed his Masters in Transportation Studies at Auckland University, and full time from November.

Michael's focus lies in Transport Modelling, and he has been involved in the development of a number of traffic models using SATURN and SIDRA.  Notable projects include:
  • The use of the Auckland CBD SATURN model to examine the effects of road closures relating to Rugby World Cup events,
  • Developing SATURN models of State Highway 18 to State Highway 1 connection options,
  • Developing a SATURN model of the Ellerslie area,
  • Using existing SATURN models to examine the timing strategy of various improvement works after completion of Auckland's Western Ring Route.
